About Horses for Mental Health

Who We Are
Horses for Mental Health was founded as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2021 out of a simple, powerful belief: when humans and horses come together, healing happens. Our founders, with backgrounds in mental health, nonprofit leadership, and equine-assisted services, saw incredible programs across the world changing lives, yet struggling in isolation with little funding or visibility.
What began as a passion project quickly grew into a global movement. In just a few years, Horses for Mental Health has united hundreds of nonprofits, inspired ambassadors and celebrities to lend their voices, and reached millions with stories of transformation.
How We Create Impact
We are not a clinic, a therapy provider, or a single program. We are a catalyst. Our role is to bring attention, resources, and credibility to equine-assisted services for mental health and personal growth.
Together, we achieve more than any one organization can alone.
Our strength comes from collaboration: nonprofits, donors, ambassadors, corporations, and everyday supporters all moving in the same direction — elevating the horse–human bond as a pathway to healing.

Raise Global Awareness
We reach millions each year by bringing public attention to the power of horses in mental health through global campaigns, storytelling initiatives, influencer partnerships, and national media outreach.
Support Local Programs
We direct dollars where they’re needed most, supporting the frontline programs doing this work every day. Through fundraising tools, grants, training resources, and visibility, we help them grow their reach, sustainability, and impact.
Convene Leaders
We collaborate with the leading credentialing and training organizations in equine-assisted services to align messaging, promote quality standards, and strengthen the field through collective action.
Advocate for Change
We build public trust and sector credibility by connecting with policymakers, health professionals, and funders, paving the way for wider acceptance and integration of these services in mental health care.
Promote Horse Well-being
We advocate for the horses at the heart of this work, ensuring they are treated with dignity, respect, and care. From uplifting rescued and retired horses to supporting high standards of welfare across all programs, we work to protect their well-being and highlight their vital role as partners in healing.

Our write-up
Horses for Mental Health is in our directory because we went looking for resources in this category and confirmed theirs is real and serving this community. What you see above is their own description, quoted from their site. We have not yet added our own write-up — the programs, eligibility and military fit that we check ourselves — and we would rather leave that blank than guess at it.
In the meantime, their official site is the authority: horsesformentalhealth.org

Are you Horses for Mental Health?
This page was written about you, not by you. We built it because the people we serve were already looking for you and deserved a straight answer about what you do. If anything here is wrong, out of date, or puts it badly, we would rather hear it from you than leave it up.
Claiming it gives you an account here and a route to request changes — corrections, new programs, updated events. Those requests are handled by Meridian Tech, our partner, under their subscription service. You are not editing this page yourself, and we would rather say that plainly now than have you find out after you sign up.
“Claim this page” opens a checkout on milconnect.com, where you set up your organization's account. Being listed here is free, and staying listed is free. Meridian Tech — the company that also builds and runs MILCONNECT.AI — provides the account and the update service, and the AI Workspace is their paid product. We are telling you about a commercial relationship before you act on it rather than after, because you are a nonprofit being asked to spend money and you deserve to see the whole shape of it first. If anything on this page is simply wrong, email us and we will fix it for free; that never requires a subscription.
This page is maintained by MILCONNECT.AI and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or authored by Horses for Mental Health. It is a directory entry compiled from community recommendations. We do not rate, rank or endorse anything in this directory, and being listed here is not a recommendation — clinical or otherwise. We are not a medical provider and cannot tell you whether a program is right for you. Check eligibility, cost and current status with the organization directly before you rely on it.
