"It will never be the same, but it can still be awesome."
-Roy Tuscany
On April 29, 2006, the High Fives Foundation was forged with one man's personal tragedy and triumphant comeback. As a promising skier with dreams of conquering the world's slopes, Roy Tuscany's aspirations were abruptly shattered when a daring jump went awry, resulting in a devastating spinal cord injury. A burst fracture of his T-12 vertebrae, compromising 45% of his spinal cord, rendered his lower body paralyzed. Battling against the odds, Roy embarked on a remarkable journey of recovery, fueled by strong personalities, relentless positivity, and an abundance of high fives. March 2008 marked a pivotal moment when Roy, against all expectations, donned his skis and ascended the lift for the first time since his injury. The cheers of encouragement and the camaraderie he experienced during his recovery became the seeds of inspiration for something greater. Fueled by a desire to extend a helping hand to others facing similar obstacles, Roy founded the High Fives Foundation in 2009.
This national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, rooted in Truckee, California, serves athletes with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and others. The High Fives Foundation has become a beacon of hope, offering financial support, emotional encouragement, and a positive outlook to those facing similar challenges. Roy's gratitude for the unwavering support he received from local skiers, community members, and friends inspired him to pay it forward. The foundation thrives on the simple yet powerful act of a "High Five," symbolizing not just a physical gesture but a commitment to support athletes through their recovery journey. It stands not just as a charity organization but as a living narrative of overcoming adversity, transforming setbacks into comebacks, and proving that, with enough determination and community support, any summit can be conquered.

Our write-up
High Fives Foundation is in our directory because the military community keeps recommending it. What you see above is their own description, quoted from their site. We have not yet added our own write-up — the programs, eligibility and military fit that we check ourselves — and we would rather leave that blank than guess at it.
In the meantime, their official site is the authority: highfivesfoundation.org

Are you High Fives Foundation?
This page was written about you, not by you. We built it because the people we serve were already looking for you and deserved a straight answer about what you do. If anything here is wrong, out of date, or puts it badly, we would rather hear it from you than leave it up.
Claiming it gives you an account here and a route to request changes — corrections, new programs, updated events. Those requests are handled by Meridian Tech, our partner, under their subscription service. You are not editing this page yourself, and we would rather say that plainly now than have you find out after you sign up.
“Claim this page” opens a checkout on milconnect.com, where you set up your organization's account. Being listed here is free, and staying listed is free. Meridian Tech — the company that also builds and runs MILCONNECT.AI — provides the account and the update service, and the AI Workspace is their paid product. We are telling you about a commercial relationship before you act on it rather than after, because you are a nonprofit being asked to spend money and you deserve to see the whole shape of it first. If anything on this page is simply wrong, email us and we will fix it for free; that never requires a subscription.
This page is maintained by MILCONNECT.AI and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or authored by High Fives Foundation. It is a directory entry compiled from community recommendations. We do not rate, rank or endorse anything in this directory, and being listed here is not a recommendation — clinical or otherwise. We are not a medical provider and cannot tell you whether a program is right for you. Check eligibility, cost and current status with the organization directly before you rely on it.
